OUTLAWS WIN FIRST TWO ROUNDS OF THE TEXAS SHOWDOWN AGAINST DALLAS SIDEKICKS
MESQUITE, Texas (January 1, 2023)- The Mesquite Outlaws and Dallas Sidekicks played their two of six games against each other this past holiday week, Outlaws winning both away and at home.
The Texas Showdown began after the Mesquite Outlaws won 8-6 against the Dallas Sidekicks in Allen, Texas at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center.
The Outlaws started the first quarter off with a quick goal by Luiz Morales in the first 16 seconds. The Outlaws scored again with a goal from David Ortiz in the 10th minute. Morales scored his second of the night a minute later, putting the Outlaws up 3-0. Sebastian Mendez scored for the Outlaws during a powerplay, after Sidekicks received a blue card for too many men. In the 14th minute, Brenden Lee scored putting the Outlaws up 5-0 at the end of the first quarter. In the 12th minute of the second quarter, Sebastian Mendez scored his second powerplay goal of the night, after Sidekicks player Flavio Guzman received a blue card for pushing. The second quarter ended with Outlaws up 6-0 at half.
In the 9th minute Darren Mitchell scored, putting the Outlaws at 7-0. Sidekicks put one on the board with a goal in the 10th minute, scored by Alberto Rodriguez. David Ortiz countered with his second goal of the night a few second later, putting the score at 8-1 at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter started with a goal for the Sidekicks, scored by Gustavo Piedra. The Sidekicks scored again with a powerplay goal from Jamie Lovegrove, after a blue card was issued to Outlaws player Axel Chakounte for tripping. Rodriguez scored again for the Sidekicks in the 10th minute, putting the score at 8-4. Rodriguez scored his hattrick of the night in the 12th minute. Another goal was scored by Rodriguez, ending the game 8-6, Outlaws winning.
Mesquite Outlaws won again on Saturday when they played the Dallas Sidekicks in Mesquite, Texas at the Mesquite Arena.
The Outlaws and Sidekicks started off the game with a lot of shots. Outlaws scored in the 13th minute, with a goal from Sebastian Mendez. A few seconds later, VicMor Eligwe countered with a goal for Sidekicks. The second quarter started the same as the last. Jorge DeLeon scored for the Outlaws, putting the score at 2-1 in the first 5 minutes of the quarter. Oscar Romero tied the game up for the Sidekicks in the 8th minute. Ending the half at a 2-2 tie.
David Ortiz scored a short-handed goal for the Outlaws two minutes into the 3rd quarter, after a blue card penalty was given to Axel Chakounte for tripping. A few seconds later, Sidekicks countered again, tying the game at 3-3 with a powerplay goal for Alberto Rodriguez. Luiz Morales scored for the Outlaws in the 6th minutes, quickly followed by another goal for the Outlaws, scored by Jorge DeLeon. Jamie Lovegrove scored a penalty kick for the Sidekicks in the 11th minutes after a yellow card was issued to Outlaws Head Coach Tatu for dissent. The 3rd quarter ending was Outlaws ahead at 5-3.
The fourth quarter with an Outlaws goal from Brenden Lee with just two minutes into the quarter. Erik Macias added another goal for the Outlaws 3 minutes in with a powerplay goal, after Sidekicks player Felipe De Sousa was issued a blue card for boarding and Sidekicks Head Coach Ricardinho was issued a yellow card for dissent. The goal was quickly followed by a Sidekicks goal from Flavio Guzman. Jorge DeLeon scored his third goal of the night in the 5th minute, putting the score at 8-4. Jamie Lovegrove scored for the Sidekicks in the 12th minute with an extra attacker after pulling Sidekicks goalie Juan Gamboa. Sidekicks scored again in the 13th minute with a goal from Cameron Brown, still with an extra attacker. The game ending with the Outlaws winning 8-7.
Jorge DeLeon scored a hattrick for the Outlaws, being the top scorer of the night. The Outlaws are now 5-1-0, and the Sidekicks are 0-4-0, with Mesquite still topping the standings in the Western Division and leading the league with 15 points.
The next game for the Outlaws is Saturday, January 7th against Utica City FC at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York. Kickoff for the game is at 6:05 pm CST.
